From one city to another
The poem ‘From one city to another’ was literally written on a route from one city to another and specifically from the artist’s return to Larnaca after a night in Limassol. Timotheou wishes to express his love for the city he was born in and grew up in, believing it provided him with many important things. The photographs next to the poem, are taken from distinctive landmarks of the city of Larnaca, which are a signature of the City’s identity, and are distinctively noted in his work.
Next to the work, a traditional blackboard is installed, in order for the visitors to write what their city means for them, wherever they come from. According to the artist, we do ‘all carry a city within us, while constantly searching for many more…’
Andreas Timotheou was born in Larnaca, and has studied Science of Education at the University of Cyprus, for which he was awarded scholarships, and he then continued with his Postgraduate studies in Language Teaching. He is a poetry and short story writer and has already published six books. His poetry and short stories have been translated to English, German, Serbian, Slovenian, Chinese and have been published in several literary magazines and anthologies. One of his short stories represented his country in the action Flash Europa 28 of the European Union Delegation in China, and he has received awards and accolades for his poetry from international cultural organisations and the University of Cyprus. Finally, he is a member of the National Society of Greek Writers of Cyprus, the Union of Cyprus Writers, the cultural group ARTION, and a founding member and president of the Cultural Movement Friends of Literature and Culture in Larnaca.
